Dr Ramya Shankar is a Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist practicing at Ovum Woman and Child Specialty Hospital, Banashankari, Bangalore. With 25 years of experience in the field of medicine, she holds qualifications in MBBS, DGO, DNB in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Fellowship in Infertility. She is also trained in fetal and gynaecological ultrasound. Dr Ramya Shankar has served as an Assistant Professor at MVJ Medical College and Research Hospital, as well as a Senior Consultant at St Mary’s Hospital, Malur. Her special interests include treating infertile couples, providing care to women during pregnancy, delivery, and post-delivery, and offering specialised care to high-risk pregnant women, such as those with diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, and other complications during pregnancy. She is well-versed in providing healthcare to women with gynaecological conditions, such as menstrual disorders, fibroids, and PCOS, as well as offering contraceptive options and cancer screening for the ovaries, uterus, and cervix.
Dr Ramya Shankar also treats adolescents with menstrual problems. She is passionate about creating health care awareness among women and teenagers and has conducted several camps and health awareness programs on prevention and early detection of cancer cervix, PCOS , nutrition in adolescents and pregnant women, menstrual hygiene and menstrual problems in women. She has worked on a project called DHEERA - educating and creating awareness among adolescent girls on ‘Violence Against Women’ in association with FOGSI. Since 2014, she is being invited annually by Bangalore Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (BSOG) to conduct workshops and live demonstrations on topics like breech delivery, surgical knot techniques, colposcopy, surgicalmanagement of postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia management with hands on training on dummy uterus to about 400 - 500 postgraduate students attending the training every year. Has had the experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduates for several years in various capacities.•She has been frequently invited by several organisations including Bangalore Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as faculty at several academic sessions , workshops, panel discussions and CME’s to deliver her lecture on various topics.
